The 2026 Honda CB1000F is supposed to be Honda’s sensible new retro. Comfortable, easy-going, nostalgic and powered by a detuned Fireblade-derived engine making around 120bhp. So why did I end up riding it like a sportsbike? In this review I wanted to find out whether there’s more to the CB1000F than the retro styling. Because underneath the old-school looks is a thoroughly modern litre-class naked bike — and it turns out it has something of a split personality. We’ll look at why Honda deliberately gave the Fireblade-derived engine less peak power, whether 120bhp is actually “slow”, how the CB1000F behaves when you start pushing it, and whether a softer, slower motorcycle can actually be more entertaining on a British B-road. I also cover the comfort, chassis, styling, TFT dash, lack of a standard quickshifter and the oil-consumption recall — including why I think some of the internet discussion around engine failures needs a little perspective. But ultimately this review comes down to one question: Is the Honda CB1000F a comfortable retro road bike… or a modern naked bike wearing a 1980s suit? Turns out, it's both.
